Dr. Architect (MSc. Victor Horta-institute of Architecture) & Master in Architectural Projects (UPC, Barcelona), PhD candidate (KU Leuven)

Johan Nielsen is an architect living and working in Belgium. He studied architecture at the Victor Horta School of Architecture in Brussels where he graduated in 2000. In 2001 he obtained the title of Master in Architectural Projects at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona. He is part of the teaching staff at the Faculty of Architecture, KU Leuven, Brussels/Ghent. He obtained his PhD at the Faculty of Achitecture KU Leuven (2022) with his research project entitled “Architectural remote practices. A research on the design of collective spaces in the distance”. He is a member of the Research Group “Urban Projects, Collective Spaces and Local Identities”. He is also involved in private practice as director Brussels-based office Manger Nielsen Architects, and is a guest professor at the Faculty.

His research was supervised by Prof. Yves Schoonjans.
